Hazel Goes Cook logoHazel Goes Cook School is one of 46 schools in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. The school was built in 1955 and underwent extensive renovation in 1999. The campus includes five classroom wings, a library, a multipurpose room, computer lab, and a portable that houses the YMCA.

Portrait of Hazel Goes CookHazel Goes Cook (1884 - 1978) was born on December 14, 1884. Hazel attended and graduated from the prestigious Smith College in Massachusetts- a private women's school. She was a leader in the citrus business in Chula Vista, CA. In 1922, Hazel was elected to serve on the Chula Vista Elementary School District Board and served for 50 years. The district had only one school and 250 students. During her years of service on the board, the district grew to 26 schools with 17,000 students. Hazel supported music, libraries, special education, and gifted programs as well as basic education. She was instrumental in starting the hot lunch program and even landscaped several new schools.
